FIRST YEARS > FAQs Library > Downloading Video Files
vertical line divider FIRST YEARS buffers our RealMedia® video files to minimize download times. However, even with buffering, playback can be "jerky" when using dial-up or slower DSL connections. Thus, for those of you who would like to have copies of the files on your hard disk, here is how you download from our server:
  1. Create a folder/subdirectory on your hard disk to receive the files. For Windows users, consider creating a folder in your "My Documents" directory.
  2. Go to the directory on our server. This will be given to you in your unit. In the example shown below with Windows XP, the location is http://www.firstyears.org/video/c5/downloads/
  3. Point your cursor over a file name and click once. In the example, you see the cursor "hand" over the file name "hallie.rv."
  4. In the "Option" option box that appears, choose "Save it to disk," seen at the red arrow, then click OK.
  5. This brings up the "Save as" dialog box, where you may have to browse to find the location by clicking the down button (as seen at the green arrow).
  6. When you locate the directory you created, click the "Save" button.
