vertical line divider To use the full functionality of your courses, you will need to make sure that Javascript is enabled on your browser. Instructions for configuring various browsers appear below. After enabling Javascript, in most cases you will have to reload/restart your browser.

Great ideaKeep in mind that upgrading your browser or installing new security software or security patches may affect your JavaScript settings. It is a good idea to double-check that JavaScript is still enabled if you notice problems.

Note for AOL users: FIRST YEARS does not recommend using AOL's proprietary browser with Blackboard. Instead, choose one of the browsers listed below.

Internet ExplorerInternet Explorer

You can download Internet Explorer 7.x from Microsoft's download site. (Download earlier version 6.x)
Internet Explorer 7.x (illustrated steps)
  1. Select "Tools" from the top menu.
  2. Choose "Internet Options."
  3. Click on the "Security" tab.
  4. Click on "Custom Level" button.
  5. Scroll down until you see section labeled "Scripting"
  6. Under "Active Scripting," select "Enable" and click OK.
  7. Answer "Yes" to the prompt requesting verification for the change.

  8. Click "OK." 
Internet Explorer 6.x/5.x (illustrated steps)
  1. Select "Tools" from the top menu.
  2. Choose "Internet Options."
  3. Click on the "Security" tab.
  4. Click on "Custom Level" button.
  5. Scroll down until you see section labeled "Scripting"
  6. Under "Active Scripting," select "Enable" and click OK.
  7. Answer "Yes" to the prompt requesting verification for the change.

  8. Click "OK." 

Mozilla FirefoxMozilla Firefox

You can download Firefox from the UNC-Chapel Hill Shareware site.
Firefox 2.0
  1. Click on "Tools" from teh top menu, then "Options," then "Content."
  2. Click on the Content Tab and place a check-mark in the boxes for "Enable Javascript" and "Enable Java."
  3. Click "OK."
Firefox 1.5 (illustrated steps)
  1. Select "Tools" from the top menu.
  2. Choose "Options."
  3. Choose "Content" from the top navigation.
  4. Select the checkbox next to "Enable JavaScript" and click "OK."

Apple SafariApple Safari

You can download Safari from Apple's download site.
Safari 1.x
  1. Select "Safari" from the top menu.
  2. Choose "Preferences."
  3. Choose "Security."
  4. Select the checkbox next to "Enable JavaScript"  and click OK.

Netscape NavigatorNetscape Navigator

You can download Netscape Navigator from Netscape's download site.
Netscape 7.x 
  1. Select the "Preferences" menu item in the "Edit" menu.
  2. Click on the arrow next to the "Advanced" label to display the list of "Advanced" options.
  3.  Select/Click "Scripts & Plugins" from the "Advanced" options list.
  4. Select/Check "Navigator" under "Enable JavaScript for" sub-heading from the "Scripts & Plugins" setting options. 
  5. Click the "OK" button to save your changes.
Netscape 8.x

Not recommended.
